A 9-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car in Queens. This incident occurred on Saturday, and the information comes from the NYPD.

Police say that Giovanni Ampuero was crossing Northern Boulevard with his mom at around 1:30 in the afternoon. A red Jeep Compass that was going north on 70 Street made a left turn and hit the boy.

He suffered severe head trauma and was transported to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead while at the hospital.

According to police, the driver kept on driving, but he was stopped a few blocks away.

Juan Jimenez, 86, was arrested on multiple charges including leaving the scene of an accident.
