Discovery Of Human Remains In Burned Bronx Building

On Monday, Sept. 16, a demolition crew taking down what remained of a burned building in the Bronx made the sad and frightening discovery of three dead bodies.

Authorities said the bodies were discovered around 2 p.m. as the crew was working on a building in the 60 block of Buchanan Place. The building had been gutted by fire a week earlier. Evidently, no one had any indication that there might be human remains in the wreckage.

Investigators are still piecing together what happened, so at this point, it is not clear how the three people died.

If the three people were killed in the fire that destroyed the building, though, their loved ones might consider a lawsuit against whomever owned the building. All property owners have a responsibility to maintain their premises in a safe and healthy manner for those who could reasonably be expected to use them. If this fire was the result of negligence on the part of the landlord, then that certainly would not count as maintaining the property in a safe conditions.

As a premises liability lawyer, I often assist New York residents who have been hurt on someone else’s property through no fault of their own. Whether that’s a grandmother who slipped and fell in her neighborhood bodega or a construction worker and father of three who is paralyzed after scaffolding collapses at his worksite, I strive to represent my clients with doggedness and determination.
