Brooklyn hospital patient left to die
A video from a surveillance camera at a Brooklyn, NY, hospital showed a woman dying on the floor. The deceased fell from her chair, and writhed on the floor. She was left to die as workers failed to help for more than an hour.
Esmin Green, 49, was waiting in the emergency room for more than 24 hours when she fell from her chair at 5:32am on June 19.
She was dead by 6:35, when someone from the medical staff, was flagged down by a person in the waiting room. The staffer finally approached and nudged Green with her foot, and gently prodded her shoulder, in order to wake her. The staffer then left and returned with someone in a white lab coat who examined her and summoned for help.
The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, which runs the hospital, said six people have been fired as a result, including security personnel and members of the medical staff.
The New York State Mental Hygiene Legal Service and the New York Civil Liberties had filed a lawsuit a year ago due to its poor services.
