Alcohol Likely Cause of Fatal Cayuga County Crash

According to police, alcohol contributed to a crash that occurred in Cayuga County that led to a man’s death and injury to four people. This happened in early March on March 9, according to police deputies.

Stephen S. Landon, a 53-year-old from Skaneateles, was driving on Route 34 in Fleming when his car moved across the center line and hit into an oncoming car. This information comes from Lt. Michael Wellauer from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim, Travis Mainwaring, died at the scene. He was 25-years-old at the time.

Landon was reportedly drinking before the crash, and there are charges pending against him. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

The accident occurred at 9:33 p.m near Fleming-Scipio Town Line Road.  Landon was driving a 2016 Honda Accord. Manwaring, the victim, was wearing a seatbelt, and his three passengers also receive injuries from the crash. They are all recovering.
