On March 15, at about 12:30 p.m., a head-on collision in Old Bridge, New Jersey, resulted in a loss of life.

Car Crosses Into Oncoming Lanes

Law enforcement states that a 45-year-old male from Howell was driving a Ford Escape southbound on Route 9 when he crossed into oncoming traffic. His vehicle struck a Honda Accord driven by a 37-year-old Freehold woman.

Neither motorist survived the crash, and a passenger in the Honda also died. CBS News New York reported that emergency personnel transported two other passengers to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The nature of their injuries was not immediately known.

Onlookers Try to Assist

A witness described how she ran out of a business with a rod to break out a window in one of the vehicles. According to CBS News, other people also ran out of area businesses to help. Following the crash, the northbound lanes of Route 9 remained closed for hours so that clean-up crews and investigators could complete their work.

The circumstances of every accident are unique, and vehicles stray into oncoming traffic for different reasons. Impaired driving and falling asleep at the wheel are two common causes of such accidents.

When there is injury or loss of life due to negligent conduct, victims and survivors have the right to seek compensation in the state’s civil court system. It is often possible to seek monetary damages for certain medical expenses, pain, suffering and lost wages. Survivors may also seek compensation for loss of companionship and burial expenses.
