Negligent Security is when a landlord or management of a premises fails to adequately protect individuals on their premises from a criminal activity. These types of claims may be filed against apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, cruise ships, business owners, and night clubs. Examples of negligent security cases include:
- Failing to repair a broken entry door lock allowing potential criminal assailants to enter an apartment building
- Inadequate security guards
- Not having a security or safety plan
- Inadequate or nonexistent security cameras
- Inadequate lighting conditions
- Negligent hiring of staff including a failure to conduct background checks on employees
- Failing to install iron bars around windows
- Failing to install window locks to prevent intruders from entering
