he New York City Buildings Department issued a partial stop-work order regarding the use of scaffolding following a construction accident on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Worker Hit in the Face

According to the New York Daily News, a construction worker was seriously injured on Tuesday, December 15, when a falling object struck him in the face at the site of a building renovation. Officials said that the worker was on the second floor of a four-story building at West 86th Street and West End Avenue when another worker allegedly dropped the piece of construction material.

The injured worker reportedly suffered a significant facial injury. Paramedics transported him to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital.

Citation Issued

Following the incident, city officials with the Buildings Department cited an unidentified contractor for a failure to provide proper safeguards. The department also issued a partial stop-work order pertaining to scaffolding in use at the renovation site.

Although every construction accident is unique, complicated liability issues arise in some cases. Numerous contractors and other responsible parties are often involved at the same site, so investigators often look for unsafe work conditions, negligent conduct and violations of safety regulations.
