Car Accident Lawyer Notes Long Island Wreck Allegedly Linked To Speeding

A teen driver accused of allegedly speeding was involved in a two-vehicle accident on Long Island in Southampton, according to the authorities.

Vehicle Exiting Driveway

Southampton Town Police reported that a 17-year-old Southampton male was operating a motor vehicle on Bridies Path at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday. At the same time, a 73-year-old East Moriches man was pulling his vehicle out of a driveway and on to the roadway. According to police, the speeding vehicle then rear-ended the vehicle pulling out of the driveway.

Injured Man Airlifted

The injuries to the driver of the car that was rear-ended were such that he required transport via Suffolk County Medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital. Several days after the accident, a relative told 27east News that the 73-year-old man was in critical condition, even though law enforcement had initially reported the man’s injuries as non-life-threatening.

The driver of the other vehicle and his passenger both required transport via ambulance to Southampton Hospital for injuries originally classified as non-life-threatening in nature. First responders with the North Sea Fire Department assisted police at the scene of the accident.

Speeding Citation

In the aftermath of the wreck, the young motorist received a speeding citation. However, the police indicated that his view of the road was possibly impacted by a small incline on that section of the roadway.

New York civil law allows injured victims of traffic accidents to seek compensation when it is reasonably asserted that a motorist’s negligent conduct contributed to the wreck. Compensation is often sought for qualifying medical expenses, pain, suffering, long-term rehabilitation expense and lost wages.

A car accident lawyer focused on this area of personal injury law can potentially assist an injured individual in evaluating the potential for a claim. In such cases, a settlement is often reached with an insurance company without the need to go to trail. For information about a no-charge consultation, please contact us.
