Carroll Gardens, NY – 37-Year-Old Man Among Two Hospitalized After Wrong-Way Crash on Henry Street

37-Year-Old Man Among Two Hospitalized

Carroll Gardens, NY (July 12, 2026) – A 37-year-old man and a woman were taken to Methodist Hospital after a wrong-way driver struck a 2019 Audi and sent it through the front windows of a Carroll Gardens deli, the New York City Police Department confirmed.

Police say the crash happened just before 8:30 a.m. on July 12 at the intersection of Henry and Union streets. A 2013 Mercedes-Benz was traveling northbound on Henry Street against the flow of traffic when it struck the Audi, which was heading eastbound on Union Street. The force of the collision sent the Audi through the front of a deli at 532 Henry St., shattering its windows.

Surveillance footage from the intersection showed the Mercedes nearly striking a pedestrian crossing the street before the collision, police said. The deli was boarded up following the crash.

Police identified the Mercedes driver as Juan Tenorio Ramos, 24. He was taken into custody at the scene and faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving the wrong way on a one-way street, failing to yield to a person in a crosswalk, and drug-related charges, according to police. Conditions for the two people transported to Methodist Hospital were not immediately available.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

A wrong-way crash gives anyone in the other vehicle no warning and no time to move. People dealing with hospital visits and unanswered questions after a collision like this have legal options, and many do not realize what those options look like until they ask.

Wrong-Way Car Accidents in Brooklyn, New York

When a driver travels the wrong direction on a one-way street and causes a collision, New York law treats that conduct as strong evidence of negligence. A criminal arrest does not automatically resolve a civil claim. The two processes run on separate timelines, and injured parties have the right to pursue compensation regardless of what happens in the criminal case.

  • Get a medical evaluation now, even when injuries seem minor at first. Soft tissue damage and concussions from vehicle collisions can take days to fully appear.
  • Do not speak with the at-fault driver’s insurance company before consulting an attorney. Anything you say can be used to reduce your claim.
  • Preserve what you have: photos of vehicle damage, emergency room records, and the names of any witnesses at the scene.
  • Do not accept a settlement offer before knowing the full cost of your treatment and recovery. Early offers rarely reflect that full picture.

New York follows a pure comparative fault standard, meaning your recovery is reduced only by the percentage of fault attributed to you. In a crash where the other driver has been charged with reckless and wrong-way conduct, that percentage is often zero for the other parties involved.

Under New York law, you generally have three years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury claim (CPLR § 214). This crash occurred on July 12, 2026, making the filing deadline July 12, 2029. Surveillance footage and police records are available now but become harder to obtain as investigations close and footage is overwritten.
