Tremont, NY (September 21, 2026) – A man in his 70s died on the morning of September 21 after a wrong-way driver struck him while he was crossing the street in the Tremont section of the Bronx, police said.
The crash happened around 5:55 a.m. at the corner of Park Avenue and East Tremont Avenue, according to the New York City Police Department.
Police said a white car was traveling northbound on Park Avenue in the southbound lane as it approached East Tremont Avenue when the driver struck the man. The impact sent him to the ground with injuries throughout his body, police said.
The driver of the white car left the scene and has not been found.
Officers from the 48th Precinct responded along with EMS, who pronounced the man dead at the scene. Police have not released his identity, pending family notification.
A neighbor in the area said the man was thrown far enough by the impact to land on a nearby parked car, leaving broken glass behind.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
