Crown Heights, NY (July 21, 2026) – Melba Jordan, 45, of Boerum Hill was killed when a dump truck struck her as she rode a standup e-scooter at a Brooklyn intersection, according to police.
Jordan was traveling northbound on Franklin Avenue on the morning of July 21 when the driver of a 2007 Peterbilt dump truck, heading southbound, turned right onto Pacific Street and struck her at the corner, police said. The crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m.
Medics transported Jordan to Kings County Hospital in critical condition. She was pronounced dead there. The 68-year-old truck driver was not injured and remained at the scene. No charges were filed immediately, police said.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is leading the investigation. Detectives are canvassing Crown Heights for witnesses and conducting standard inspections of the truck. Investigators are also reviewing available surveillance footage from the Franklin Avenue and Pacific Street area. Authorities have not indicated whether summonses or criminal charges will follow.
