East Harlem, NY (November 3, 2026) – A 61-year-old woman was injured when a driver hit her and left the scene at Park Avenue and East 115th Street, according to the New York City Police Department.
The woman was crossing Park Avenue at East 115th Street at 5:20 a.m. on November 3 when a driver in a red Honda drove through the intersection and then reversed back into her, hitting her in the left knee, police said. The driver then fled the scene, heading uptown on Park Avenue.
She was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition with minor injuries, officials said. Police are looking for suspects, and no arrests have been made yet.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
Hit-and-Run Claims for Injured Pedestrians in New York
NYC DOT reported 111 pedestrian deaths in New York City traffic in 2025. When a driver leaves the scene, the injured person may still pursue a claim. New York treats an unidentified driver as uninsured, so the pedestrian’s own auto policy, or a resident relative’s, may provide uninsured motorist benefits. That coverage generally requires physical contact with the vehicle, which makes early evidence important.
A pedestrian with no auto policy in the household may turn to the Motor Vehicle Accident Indemnification Corporation. It requires a police report within 24 hours and an affidavit filed within 90 days of the crash (Insurance Law § 5208). For a November 3 crash, that is February 1, 2027.
- First steps: Get evaluated even if the injuries seem minor, because symptoms can surface or worsen in the following days. Request the crash report number from the NYPD and tell your own insurer you may file an uninsured motorist claim. Write down the plate digits, car color, damage, and direction of travel. Keep the clothing you wore, and ask nearby businesses to save camera footage before it is overwritten.
- Who may be liable: The driver and the vehicle’s owner, once identified.
- Deadlines: New York’s no-fault rules call for written notice to the no-fault insurer within 30 days, by December 3, 2026. A lawsuit must be filed within three years under CPLR § 214, by November 3, 2029.
