Great Kills, NY (October 30, 2026) – According to the FDNY, a multi-car crash happened at Hylan Boulevard and Armstrong Avenue in Great Kills around 7:53 a.m. on October 30. One vehicle was overturned, and one person was transported to Staten Island University Hospital North, the FDNY said. Information on possible injuries and the circumstances leading to the crash was not immediately available.
The crash caused traffic delays and bus detours during the morning commute. At 8:30 a.m., police were seen diverting traffic around the scene. Motorists heading in the direction of Rosebank were directed off Hylan Boulevard and onto Armstrong Avenue.
The collision also caused visible damage to a traffic signal and a street barrier at the intersection. At least two badly damaged vehicles could be seen shortly before 9 a.m., with debris scattered in the roadway and a traffic signal knocked down. Multiple NYPD vehicles and ambulances were at the scene.
The MTA issued an alert that northbound S78, S79-SBS, SIM1 and SIM7 buses were being detoured because of the incident. As of 10 a.m., buses were back on their routes and the vehicles had been cleared.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
Who May Be Liable After a Multi-Car Crash on Staten Island
NYC DOT reported that deaths among drivers and occupants of motor vehicles fell 40 percent citywide in 2025. Even so, a crash with several vehicles can leave drivers and passengers hurt and unsure who is at fault.
When several vehicles collide, fault often turns on the order of impacts, who had the right of way, and what the physical evidence shows. No one involved should assume fault has been decided until that evidence is reviewed.
- First steps: See a doctor the same day even without pain, since whiplash, concussion, and internal injuries can surface later. Photograph every vehicle and the intersection, ask the NYPD for the crash report number, and ask nearby businesses to save their camera video.
- Who may be liable: Any driver whose conduct contributed to the crash, the owner of each vehicle involved, and anyone else the evidence identifies. If fault is shared, CPLR § 1411(b) bars recovery when the injured person’s fault equals or exceeds the combined fault of the defendants.
- Deadlines: No-fault benefits can pay medical bills and lost earnings. Written notice to the no-fault insurer is due within 30 days, by November 29, 2026. CPLR § 214 sets a three-year filing deadline of October 30, 2029.
