Manhattan, NY (September 10, 2026) – A 77-year-old man was killed, and his daughter was among two others hurt when a truck mounted the sidewalk near Canal Street and the Bowery in Manhattan’s Chinatown, the FDNY and NYPD said.
Firefighters said they got a call at 10:20 a.m. on the morning of September 10 reporting the crash. Police said a truck carrying wooden pallets had just exited the Manhattan Bridge and was traveling westbound on Canal Street when it turned right toward the Bowery, mounted the curb, and struck three pedestrians on the sidewalk. The truck then rear-ended a van on the Bowery.
One of the victims, a 77-year-old man, was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The two other pedestrians struck, both women, were hospitalized in stable condition. The 47-year-old driver of the van was also hospitalized.
Family identified the man who died as Jun Ting. His daughter, 52-year-old Yong Wong, was among the two women injured in the crash.
The 66-year-old driver of the truck was initially taken into custody, and police said no charges had been filed as of Thursday. Police said there was no indication the crash was intentional.
