Bronx, NY – 40-Year Old Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Truck Crash

Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Truck Crash

BRONX, NEW YORK (June 13, 2026) โ€” A 40-year-old man walking on crutches was struck and killed in a hit-and-run truck crash near East 138th Street and Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx, according to NYC officials.

The collision took place around 7:30 PM on Sunday. The man was attempting to cross the street when a truck struck him. He fell to the ground, and a second vehicle โ€” a 2015 Honda CR-V traveling in the same direction โ€” then struck him again as he lay in the roadway.

Firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene. The victim was transported to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The truck driver did not remain at the scene. Police are currently seeking that driver.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

What Families Should Know After a Fatal Hit-and-Run in the Bronx

Losing someone this way โ€” struck while simply trying to cross a street โ€” leaves families facing questions the police investigation alone cannot answer. New York law gives the victim’s family the right to pursue a civil claim, and that process runs separately from any criminal investigation into the truck driver.

Here is what matters most right now:

  • A hit-and-run does not end the claim. Even when the truck driver has not yet been identified, a claim may be available through the victim’s own uninsured motorist (UM) coverage. If the victim resided with a family member who carried auto insurance, that UM policy may apply.
  • The Honda CR-V driver may also be liable. The second vehicle struck the victim after he was already on the ground. New York law requires every driver to exercise due care to avoid striking any person in the roadway. That driver’s conduct will be a central issue in any civil investigation.
  • Trucking companies carry responsibility for their drivers. Under New York law, employers can be held liable for the negligent conduct of employees acting within the scope of their work. If the truck was a commercial vehicle, the company behind it โ€” not just the driver โ€” may face liability once identified.
  • Physical evidence disappears fast. Surveillance footage, witness accounts, tire marks, and debris at East 138th Street and Bruckner Boulevard can be critical to identifying the truck and establishing liability. That evidence must be preserved now.
  • New York’s wrongful death statute of limitations is two years from the date of death (EPTL ยง5-4.1). Acting before that deadline is essential, but waiting costs the family investigative opportunities that may never return.
