Bronx, NY (June 16, 2026) – A man was taken to the hospital with neck and back injuries after an unknown driver allegedly brake-checked traffic and fled the scene of a two-car crash on the Bronx River Parkway, the FDNY confirmed.
The accident occurred just before 11 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway near Exit 7E, according to the FDNY. Two vehicles were involved: a white Lexus and a gray Volkswagen.
The driver of the Volkswagen, who remained at the scene, told reporters that a third driver abruptly crossed lanes, brake-checked traffic, and triggered the crash before continuing down the parkway. Family members of the Lexus driver told reporters he was taken to the hospital with neck and back injuries but is expected to recover. The Volkswagen sustained front-end damage and remained at the crash site. The Lexus was found under a nearby overpass awaiting tow.
No additional serious injuries were reported. As of June 16, the driver who allegedly caused the crash had not been located.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
A crash caused by a driver who flees the scene can leave victims with mounting medical bills, no clear path to compensation, and no answers about who is responsible.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in the Bronx, New York
When the driver responsible for a crash leaves the scene, victims face a harder path to recovery, but not an impossible one.
- Who may be liable: the fleeing driver once identified, or the victim’s own uninsured motorist coverage if the at-fault driver is never found
- What to document right away: photos of vehicle damage, witness contact information, and any dash cam or surveillance footage from nearby vehicles or businesses
- What investigators examine: parkway cameras, 911 call logs, and vehicle debris left at the scene that may help identify the third car
- Do not give a recorded statement to any insurance company before speaking with an attorney
New York follows a pure comparative fault standard. Even if the investigation later shows the victim played some part in the crash, compensation may still be available based on the at-fault driver’s greater share of responsibility.
Under New York law, you generally have three years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury claim (CPLR ยง 214). That deadline is June 16, 2029.
