Tractor trailer accident lawyer discusses Florida truck accident that offers free beer and chips to motorists

The Accident

At approximately 3:19 a.m. last night on Interstate 95 south of the Pineda exit in Melbourne, Florida, two tractor trailers collided. A truck carrying Frito Lay chips and popcorn pulled over in the right lane. Another tractor trailer carrying Busch beer attempted to change lanes to the left but swerved back the right because of a passenger car in the left lane. This caused the beer truck to crash into the Frito Lay’s chip truck. The truck drivers were not injured. The accident however spilled beer and chips onto the roadway closing I-95 for up to 4 hours. Crews had to plow the beer and chips to the side of the road. Some motorists stopped to pick up bags of chips and beer.

Once police arrived, clean up crews removed the scattered products and police said all of the beer and chips will be thrown away.

This accident illustrates a common cause of truck accidents which is failure to confirm a lane is open and safe to merge into prior to changing lanes. The beer truck driver was ticketed for unsafe lane change. Contact Us for more.
