Tractor trailer accident lawyer discusses Florida truck accident that offers free beer and chips to motorists

The Accident

At approximately 3:19 a.m. last night on Interstate 95 south of the Pineda exit in Melbourne, Florida, two tractor-trailers collided. A truck carrying Frito-Lay chips and popcorn pulled over in the right lane. Another tractor-trailer carrying Busch beer attempted to change lanes to the left but swerved back to the right because of a passenger car in the left lane. This caused the beer truck to crash into the Frito-Lay’s chip truck. The truck drivers were not injured. The accident, however, spilled beer and chips onto the roadway, closing I-95 for up to 4 hours. Crews had to plow the beer and chips to the side of the road. Some motorists stopped to pick up bags of chips and beer.

Once police arrived, clean-up crews removed the scattered products, and police said all of the beer and chips would be thrown away.

This accident illustrates a common cause of truck accidents which is failure to confirm a lane is open and safe to merge into prior to changing lanes. The beer truck driver was ticketed for an unsafe lane change. Contact Us for more.
