Tips for Selecting an Injury Lawyer for Your Case

Tips for Selecting an Injury Lawyer for Your Case

If you have been injured in an accident, one thing that you might think about doing is getting an injury lawyer. But how do you find the right one? There are so many lawyers who advertise on the television and Internet, it can be overwhelming. Here are three tips that you can use for choosing your lawyer.

Be Comfortable with the Arrangement

Make sure that any lawyer that you hire will be worth what you’re paying and only agree to a structure for fees that is going to suit you. The best thing that you can do is to find a lawyer that is only going to charge you when and if you win your case. It’s a mistake to sign a blank check or to pay retainer fees. Ask the lawyer for an agreement in writing that specifies anticipated fees and costs.

Choose One who Will Explain Things in Plain Terms

The worst thing that can happen is for your case to fall flat due to your lawyer not filing the correct documents. Also, make sure that they are explaining the legal documents to you that they are drafting. In order to keep the relationship between you and your lawyer going smoothly, have some sort of written account of the interactions that you are having with your lawyer. This is really important, especially when you’re discussing money. Through documenting what you understand regarding potential settlements or fee changes you’re going to ensure a quick and fair resolution of disputes in the future. A lawyer who is fair is going to be willing to explain things to you in a way that you can understand.

Insist on Good Communication

Before you sign anything with your lawyer, insist on the way and the frequency of the communication between the two of you. If you’re waiting days or even weeks before you are hearing from your lawyer you either didn’t relate the expectations that you have well enough or you’ve gotten a lawyer who’s too busy for your case. If this is the case you should think about finding another one. Even though they have a really good reputation for being a good lawyer, if they’re really busy they are not going to be a good help to you.
