If you happened to slip and fall on a public walkway in front of a business or apartment, your chances of obtaining compensation for your medical bills are also considerably good. The reasons for that are due to premises liability and a law in New York that makes it easier to seek damages after falling on a public sidewalk. This means anything that could cause someone to fall has to be

Queens Motorcycle Crash Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Hurt
A motorcycle accident in Queens on Sunday, Oct. 14, left one man dead and another severely injured. As a New York City attorney who often helps personal injury clients, I have to shake my head at this story. It is undeniably tragic, but sadly, one thing it is not is uncommon. According to CBS New York, a 27-year-old Queens man was driving northbound on Cross Island Parkway in Queens around 5:30 a.m. when he collided with a low barrier near Whitestone Expressway. When police arrived at the scene of the motorcycle accident, they found the man suffering from severe head trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man had a passenger on the motorcycle with him. This man, who is also 27, was taken to Queens General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation. If the passenger chooses, he might file a personal injury lawsuit against
New York Train Accident Lawyers discuss recent Bronx Metro North train derailment
Train Accident Lawyers: 4 Dead, 67 Injured In Bronx Train Derailment Earlier this month, a passenger train derailed in New York, killing four people and injuring at least 67. Authorities are investigating the terrible accident, but so far have not come up with any early explanation for what could have caused this disaster, According to CNN, the train had about 150 people on it and was headed into the city from Poughkeepsie. It derailed Sunday, Dec. 1 in the Bronx, approximately 10 minutes north of Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan. What’s alarming is that this is not the first accident this particular stretch of track has seen. In July, a freight train derailed in the same area. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo called this portion of track “dangerous…just by design.” The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident. Mass transit accidents like this are dangerous because they involve the
Discovery Of Human Remains In Burned Bronx Building
On Monday, Sept. 16, a demolition crew taking down what remained of a burned building in the Bronx made the sad and frightening discovery of three dead bodies. Authorities said the bodies were discovered around 2 p.m. as the crew was working on a building in the 60 block of Buchanan Place. The building had been gutted by fire a week earlier. Evidently, no one had any indication that there might be human remains in the wreckage. Investigators are still piecing together what happened, so at this point, it is not clear how the three people died. If the three people were killed in the fire that destroyed the building, though, their loved ones might consider a lawsuit against whomever owned the building. All property owners have a responsibility to maintain their premises in a safe and healthy manner for those who could reasonably be expected to use them. If
NY Car Accident Law Firm Look Into Recent Car Crash Report
Washington, D.C. is the most dangerous of America’s 200 largest cities when it comes to how often residents get into car accidents, according to a new report. That same report found that Fort Collins, Colorado, is the safest city in the country. As car accident lawyers, we read this report with interest. Staying informed and up-to-date about important news is a major part of providing responsive, intelligent service to our clients. The report we’re talking about, America’s Best Drivers, was prepared by Allstate Insurance with claims data from 2011 and 2012. As far as we can tell, Allstate used claims only from its own customers, and not those of other insurance companies, so the results of the study are not scientific. Even so, it presents an interesting slice of data that at least merits a closer look. Washington, D.C., came in at the bottom of the list because residents there
