High School Bus Crash Seriously Injures 6

A New York high school bus crash has caused injury to six students who were returning from spring break. A charter bus was carrying teenagers returning from a trip when the bus hit a bridge overpass on Long Island. The incident led to injury for six passengers. The entire length of the top of the bus was mangled after hitting into the overpass. According to police, the incident happened at around 9 at night on Sunday on the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview. Thirty-seven other passengers also suffered from minor injuries. Videos of the accident showed teenagers standing outside of the damaged bus and firefighters at the scene. Many ambulances and fire trucks were there at the scene. Investigation Finds Buffalo Officer Did Not Have Sirens On When He Struck Pedestrian
This story is an update on a story we reported on last week. An officer who hit and killed a pedestrian was found to not be driving with emergency lights or sirens on when the incident happened. This information comes from the Buffalo Police, and the information was released last Thursday morning. The victim was 64-year-old Susan Lotempio. Lotempio was taking a morning walk near Hertel Avenue and Tennyson Avenue when she was hit by the police car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer involved is Officer Daniel Ahearn. He is said to be cooperating with the investigators. New York State Police are handling the accident reconstruction. The New York State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the death. Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Car in Long Island
An adult male pedestrian was killed last Saturday night after he was hit by a car on West Main Street, according to Riverhead police. The accident happened at 8:43 at night. Police received a 911 call related to a pedestrian accident involving a motor vehicle. This happened near Weeping Willow Park. Police arrived and officers found an adult male. They determined that he had serious injuries and was not breathing. CPR was delivered. The man was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center. The victim had suffered severe injuries to his head and body. He was then taken to Southside Hospital and was pronounced dead while there. Police determined that a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling east on West Main Street where he hit the pedestrian. The driver remained on the scene and no criminal charges were filed. In Hillsdale, New York, State Police are investigating a fatal car crash that happened on Route 22. Troopers were sent to the scene at around 1:10 in the afternoon on Saturday, April 7. The incident happened near Sawyer Road in the Town of Hillsdale. Woman from Bronx Blames Cop Chase for Injuries She Suffered in Wreck
A woman from the Bronx was nearly killed in a head-on car wreck that happened last year. She blames the collision on a 70 mph police chase that was occurring over another driver’s minor traffic violation. Joanna Green, a 30-year-old, from the Bronx, still has to wear a colostomy bag and is facing a long recovery after the accident changed her life forever. “I can’t even walk two blocks without stopping,” she has said about her injuries. Green filed a complaint last week alleging that the collision occurred after an NYPD officer was recklessly pursuing a Mercedes-Benz for doing an illegal lane change. Green was with her brother heading to his early morning shift at UPS at around 2:30 in the morning when the accident happened. She was hospitalized for three months. This update is about one of the drunk drivers who caused the accident. This accident happened near the JFK airport. A drunk driver involved in the accident, Zakiyyah Steward, was reportedly kept out of jail after she was involved in a burglary spree. A judge involved in sentencing her for her burglary spree made the decision to keep her out of jail. Steward was indicted in March 2017 for breaking into a cafe where she used to work and stealing money from the safe.
