A Car Drives Into a Classroom in Upstate NY
At the end of March, a driver drove into a classroom located in Upstate New York at an elementary school. A 22-year-old many from Schenectady is now facing a felony charge after he crashed his car into the elementary school. The school in question was Martin Luther King School, and the incident is said to have occurred around midnight. Luckily, no one was in the classroom at the time. The students at the school got a day off because the crash damaged an art classroom and a fifth-grade classroom. Structural engineers were brought in to assess the safety of the building. Parts of the building remain closed as work on the repairs has been going on. The driver was Estevon Tirado. He blew through a stop sign and hit into the school, and he then fled from the scene but police found him nearby. He is facing several criminal charges.
Update on DOT Worker Who Was Killed After Being Struck by a Car
We are bringing you an update on a story we talked about earlier last week. A city Department of Transportation electrification was killed when a driver struck him. He had been working on the Hutchinson River Parkway when the accident occurred, according to police as well as witnesses at the scene. The victim was George Staab of Long Island. He was 57-years-old at the time of the incident. He was getting out of a vehicle parked on the side of the road just south of the Hutchinson River Parkway Bridge. This happened at around 10:30 in the morning. A driver lost control of his car and hit him. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. A Firefighter, Michael R. Davison, Dies on Film Set in Harlem
Late last month, a firefighter died while on a film set as he was helping put out a Harlem fire. A five-alarm fire started in the basement of 773 St. Nicholas Avenue in Harlem. This building was being used a film location for a movie directed by Edward Norton. A New York firefighter did while fighting the blaze and two other people were seriously injured. Michael R. Davison, 37, was operating the fire hose nozzle and was the first to arrive. He got separated from other firefighters who were forced to move further from the building as the fire got worse. He was found by other firefighters and was unconscious, so he was taken to Harlem Hospital. He was later pronounced dead while at the hospital. A Man Killed by Train at Long Island Railroad Station
Last week, a man was struck and killed by a train at the Lynbrook Long Island Railroad station. The man has still not been identified, according to MTA officials. Service was suspended in both directions on the Long Beach line. Homicide detectives were on the scene investigating the incident. The man was hit by the train at around 8:15 at night. His body ended up on the station platform, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. As of now, the MTA has confirmed that the incident did occur. They have not said the identity of the victim, and they have also said the incident is being investigated. Service has since been restored.
