Charter and City Bus Accidents Remain a Dangerous Threat
Three people died and 16 others were injured in one of the most serious bus accidents recently in New York City. A speeding chartered bus (traveling at about 58 miles per hour) ran a red light in Queens and hit an MTA bus on September 18, 2017. The entire event was caught on a nearby video surveillance camera, showing the danger to NYC from bus accidents. The improper speed of the chartered bus sealed the fate of many. Those who perished included the chartered bus driver, a pedestrian, and a passenger on the MTA bus. Within twenty-four hours, National Transportation Safety Board investigators and local politicians were attempting to determine the main factors that caused this tragic event. Brooklyn Engineer Faces Charges for Fatal Work Site Collapse in NY
Brooklyn engineer Abraham Hertzberg has been charged due to negligence which led to a construction worker’s (Lauro Ortega ) death. The worker died on the construction site which led to the arrest of the site owner. The engineer of a Construction site located in Brooklyn faced charges. A construction worker of this Brooklyn construction site died, after which site owner was arrested for manslaughter, a week later. Hertzberg who is a licensed engineer faked an authority personal signature to mislead the Buildings Department regarding details of the certifying personnel. Site owner William Lattarulo was charged with failing to brace the building which he owned. He was also charged after failing to comply with proper safety rules for carrying out the construction work which led to the death of worker in a construction accident. Instead of hiring proper personnel, he hired day laborers when part of the building next door collapsed.
Are NYC Construction Sites Adapting to COVID-19 Safety Threats?
Now that most New York City construction sites are active again, they are having to figure out how to safeguard their workers against all COVID-19 health concerns. Back in March, when some workers voiced their fears about inadequate safety precautions, a few major changes were made on some sites. For example, social distancing concerns caused some employers to begin having their workers arrive at staggered start times — so that large groups of employees would stop showing up and trying to enter the grounds at the same time. Other employers began requiring all employees to stop upon arrival and undergo forehead scans to be sure they were not running a fever (a common COVID-19 symptom). Can Surgical Staplers Cause Serious Injuries & Death?
During the past two years, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued news releases, recalls, guidelines and other materials regarding surgical and implantable staples. This has been in response to the very large number of medical device reports (MDRs) that were submitted to the FDA between January 1, 2011 and March 31, 2018. In fact, at least 41,000 MDRs were received by the FDA during that time period (some experts claim that number is far higher).
