Police Identify Ashley N. Schmidt as Motorcyclist who Died in Crash
The Niagara Falls Police Department has identified the 32-year-old woman from Grand Island who died on Sunday night. She died after she was ejected from her motorcycle. The woman, Ashley N. Schmidt, lost control of the motorcycle she was driving at around 8:20 in the evening, according to police. This occurred on Ferry Avenue near 19th Street. She hit the curb and was thrown from the bike. Schmidt was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. The crash is still being looked into by police. She is survived by two children, and her funeral will be held on Saturday at the Kaiser Funeral Home in Grand Island. Severe LaGrange Crash Being Investigated
The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that they are looking into a two-car crash that happened on Noxon Road near Vincent Road. This happened in the Town of LaGrange at around 7:20 in the morning on April 24. The crash was reported to be serious. The initial investigation shows that a 1994 Chevy pickup that was being driven by Matthew V. Amicucci was traveling west and crossed over the center pavement and hit a 2011 Ford Edge being driven by Brenda V. Swatek. The pickup caught fire and the Ford went off the road and became submerged in a pond. Amicucci was taken out of the fire and transported by airlift to Westchester Medical Center. Swatek was taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital by ambulance. They both suffered significant injuries, and Amicucci’s were reported to be life-threatening. Family of Police Shooting Victim Filing Wrongful Death Claim
The family of a man who was fatally shot by the police during a raid in a Bronx apartment building is filing a wrongful death suit. The claim is being filed against the NYPD. Mario Sanabria was shot by the police last December. His family is now suing the city for $150 million. The police shot the man at a raid at the wrong house. Police are saying that the shooting was justified. The family is looking for justice. The 69-year-old was killed after a no-knock raid that included 9 officers going inside and looking for guns and drugs. But, they had raided the wrong apartment. The search warrant was not for Mario and no one with the name on the warrant lived at that apartment. Police allege that Sanabria was holding a large knife. Update: Long Island City Fire Injures 8
This story is an update on a story that we posted about earlier this week. At least eight people have been injured in a fire that started in Queens on Tuesday night. Officials say that they got a call at around 8:30 in the evening about a fire that was blazing on the first floor of a four-story building. The building was located on 11-14 46th Street in Long Island City. 12 FDNY units and 65 firefighters responded to this incident. At least 8 civilians, maybe more, were hurt. One of them was critically injured and taken to the hospital. Three other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The fire was said to be under control by 10:30 at night. Update: Baby Killed in Car Accident in Staten Island
A baby was killed after a driver ran a red light in Staten Island early last Saturday. This information comes from the police. The baby passed away because of the car crash. The 36-year-old mother was in the passenger seat of a 2003 Chevy van. The van was being driven by a relative. Police say the mother was holding the baby, 6-month-old Damaris Earps, in her arms because he was suffering from flu-like symptoms. The van was going east on Forest Avenue when it went through a red light at around 2:40 in the morning. While going through the intersection, a Jeep hit the vehicle. When officers got there, Damaris was unconscious inside the van. Damaris was being taken to the hospital because of flu symptoms. He was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead there.
