Update: More Details on Whitesboro Crash that Killed Police Officer Kevin Crossley
Continuing the updates on the Whitesboro crash that claimed the life of Officer Kevin Crossley, the Whitesboro Police Department has now held their joint news conference. The conference happened at state police barracks in Marcy and was done to give more information on the crash. New York State Police and the Whitesboro Police Department held the conference together. Crossley was traveling east on Oriskany Boulevard when the accident occurred. A vehicle being driven by Nicole Moshier-Harris of Whitesboro was heading westbound. SHe attempted to turn left onto Westmoreland Street, and her vehicle hit Crossley’s patrol car. The area where the crash happened was a 40 mph zone, and it is still unclear how fast both of the vehicles were going at the time of the accident. LIRR to Test Life-Saving Technology
The MTA is working on implementing life-saving technology which controls the speed of trains. They will be testing this technology on the LIRR Port Washington line that runs from Woodside and Bayside. They are going to be doing this testing all throughout the month of April. This move is in anticipation of meeting the federal deadline on December 31 for the launch of Positive Train Control. They are working towards implementing Positive Train Control stems from the many Amtrak derailments that were caused by excessive speed. These Amtrak accidents caused fatalities. The U.S. Senate is pushing for agencies to act and to do more to prevent fatalities in the future. The chief safety officer for the MTA, David Mayer, said in front of members of the U.S. Senate that the agency is making progress on building the PTC technology on the LIRR. Pedestrian Was Hit by Truck in Cattaraugus County
Last week, a pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck in Cattaraugus County. The police officers have said that a male was walking east on Route 417 when the accident happened, and he was struck by a vehicle. This accident occurred in Kill Buck, New York. It happened at about 3:30 in the morning. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was flown to ECMC by a Mercy Flight. Crossley died while in an on-duty crash that occurred in the village of Whitesboro on Wednesday night. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help his family. According to the page, he is survived by his parents, brother, girlfriend, and many friends. Crossley was a 34-year-old lifetime resident of Whitesboro, and he joined their police department in 2011. This update is on a story we posted about earlier this week. Kevin Crossley, 34-years-old, was a village of Whitesboro Police Department Officer who passed away Wednesday in a car accident. State police have said that a 26-year-old woman caused the accident that took the life of the Oneida County police officer. The accident involved her vehicle and the vehicle of Kevin Crossley. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed, and it appears that the crash was a traffic accident. Crossley had worked for the Whitesboro Police department for 7 years, and he has recently started working part-time for the Whitestown Police Department. He was driving his patrol car around 8 at night when he was hit head-on by a Chevy Avalanche. The Chevy was being driven by Nicole Moshier-Harris.
