The MTA is starting tests on its new app ahead of the public launch that is supposed to happen in the coming weeks. The app is called “MYmta,” and it will feature trip planning and real-time information for services. It will also let commuters know about accidents and reasons why other delays are happening. Family of Man Crushed by Hoist Mechanism in Brooklyn to File Lawsuit
The family of a man who died after he was crushed by a hoist mechanism last week is starting the process of filing a lawsuit. This information comes from Attorney Mark Bernstein. Young-Kil Sim was delivering shopping bags to KP Farm Market which is located on Nostrand Avenue in East Flatbush. While doing so, a jury-rigged elevator that was being operated by two workers came crashing down and hit him on the head. Sim, who was 62 at the time, was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County. The Department of Buildings started a preliminary investigation and found that the pulley system had been installed illegally. The agency said they were not aware of the contraception. Update: Man Who Died in Trump Tower Fire Was Respected Art Dealer
This story is an update on a story we reported on last week. Todd Brassner, the man who was killed in the Trump Tower fire, was well-known for having a kind heart and was also a respected art dealer. He was a 67-year-old man who lived on the 50th floor of the Manhattan building. He died while at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital on Saturday night. He passed away a short while after being taken to the hospital in critical condition. Fire marshals were at the building investigating the cause of the fire that broke out at around 5:30 in the evening. Six firefighters were also treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation. LIRR Boss Stepping Down
LIRR President Patrick Nowakowski spoke to the press after a train accident that happened in Jamaica, Queens. He was the chief who oversaw the LIRR during its worst performance, and, as such, he has decided to stop down. The LIRR had its worst performance in 18 years in 2017. There were over 21,000 late trains. Nowakowski is resigning on Friday after overseeing the job for four years. “LIRR riders deserve a new leader who will demand immediate reform and who will level with and speak directly to them,” State Senator Todd Kaminsky said in a statement. Fire Causes Bank in Port Byron to Close
In Port Byron, a bank will be closed for several days after a fire broke out in the building. The bank in questions was Savannah Bank, and the fire happened on Thursday evening. Someone walking past the building noticed there was a fire and called 911 just before 7 at night. This information came from a Cayuga County 911 dispatcher. The bank is located at 126 Main Street. Initial reports indicate that a chair was on fire inside of the bank and that the fire might have been caused by an electrical spark from a fixture above the chair. Update: Building Where Firefighter Died in Harlem to Be Torn Down
This update is from a story we reported on earlier this week. The Harlem building that was severely damaged in a five-alarm fire will be torn down. This fire led to the death of one firefighter. This information comes from the Department of Buildings. Demolition on the building located on 773 Nicholas Ave has started. The building was a five-story building that was being used as a movie set for a film called “Motherless Brooklyn.” The film is being directed by Edward Norton.
