LIRR to Test Life-Saving Technology

The MTA  is working on implementing life-saving technology which controls the speed of trains. They will be testing this technology on the LIRR Port Washington line that runs from Woodside and Bayside. They are going to be doing this testing all throughout the month of April. This move is in anticipation of meeting the federal deadline on December 31 for the launch of Positive Train Control. They are working towards implementing Positive Train Control stems from the many Amtrak derailments that were caused by excessive speed. These Amtrak accidents caused fatalities. The U.S. Senate is pushing for agencies to act and to do more to prevent fatalities in the future. The chief safety officer for the MTA, David Mayer, said in front of members of the U.S. Senate that the agency is making progress on building the PTC technology on the LIRR. Pedestrian Was Hit by Truck in Cattaraugus County

Last week, a pedestrian was hit by a pickup truck in Cattaraugus County. The police officers have said that a male was walking east on Route 417 when the accident happened, and he was struck by a vehicle. This accident occurred in Kill Buck, New York. It happened at about 3:30 in the morning. The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was flown to ECMC by a Mercy Flight. The driver of the truck wasn’t injured, and it is not clear what condition the pedestrian is in at this time. The reasons for the accident and who was at fault are also still unclear. Update: GoFundMe Set Up to Help Family of Fallen Police Officer

This story is another update on the accident that claimed the life of Whitesboro Police Officer Kevin Crossley. Crossley died while in an on-duty crash that occurred in the village of Whitesboro on Wednesday night. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help his family. According to the page, he is survived by his parents, brother, girlfriend, and many friends. Crossley was a 34-year-old lifetime resident of Whitesboro, and he joined their police department in 2011. This update is on a story we posted about earlier this week. Kevin Crossley, 34-years-old, was a village of Whitesboro Police Department Officer who passed away Wednesday in a car accident.
