New York MTA to Launch New System for Employees
This summer the New York MTA is planning to pilot a mobile system that will help their employees document traffic issues and infrastructure issues in real time. This chatbot pilot project is being called the Collision Accident Reporting System (CARS). This program is being designed to allow employees to report accidents using their smartphones and allow managers to examine accident hotspots in order to make better decisions about fixing infrastructure. This is a daunting undertaking as the MTA moves millions of people every day. But, they are hoping this system will help with safety measures and allow the MTA to make necessary improvements to the system. Update: GPS Did Not Warn bus Driver of Danger of Overpass
This story is an update on the bus crash we reported on earlier this week. The driver of the bus was from out of state. He was driving a charter bus full of high school students when he crashed into an overpass on a Long Island Parkway. He was using a non-commercial GPS device that didn’t let him know about the hazard. The accident was easily preventable, and it left two passengers seriously injured, the police said. State police Major David Candelaria said the driver didn’t even slow down before hitting into the overpass. The overpass bans buses and other commercial vehicles from going under it because it is too low. The driver of the bus didn’t have a high-tech warning system. A Car Crashes into a Dry Cleaner in Baldwin
On April 8, a car crashed into a dry cleaner in a Long Island town. The accident happened in the town of Baldwin. According to Nassau County police, they responded to a call of a car crashing into a dry cleaning business early on Sunday morning. This happened at around 11:30 in the morning at the corner of Stowe Avenue and Grand Avenue. The business was not actually open at the time the ancient occurred. Update on Man, Russell Henry, Found Dead in Bronx Fire
This story is an update on an earlier story about a man who was found dead in a Bronx fire. On Monday, a man was found dead inside a burning building. The police say that the fire might be suspicious. Firefighters found the man just before midnight. According to the NYPD and FDNY, they responded to the scene on Freeman Street. The victim, Russell Henry, a 35-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Many other people who lived in the building were able to get out safely. According to some sources, it appears that Henry was already dead before the fire started. Some findings think he might have been set on fire. Falling Debris in Soho Causes Injury
Last month, two pedestrians were walking in Soho then there were hit by falling debris from a fire escape. They suffered life-threatening injuries because of the incident. They were hit by a metal fire-escape step that fell seven stories. The victims were a 27-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man. Man From Milton Recovers After Life-Altering Crash
A Milton man is up and running again after an accident that changed his life. Maxwell Curtiss is now able to run along the Burlington waterfront again. He is a 26-year-old man from Milton whose life was changed after he was hit by a driver while riding his bicycle. He suffered a broken hand and a fractured skull and was in a coma for 10 days following the accident. The accident occurred last summer, and it was just like any other day. Just after 8:30 at night, he was hit by a driver at the intersection of Route 7 and Lake Road. He was rushed to the hospital and listed in critical condition.
