Vehicle Catches Fire
Authorities in Milford, Connecticut, say that the motorist was southbound in the northbound lanes near exit 36 at about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, when the accident happened. The engine compartment of one of the vehicles caught fire, but first responders were successful in quickly extinguishing the flames, according to a report by CBS Connecticut.
Extrication Required
Emergency personnel had to extricate both motorists involved in the collision. In one instance, the extrication took approximately 30 minutes. The motorist then required transport to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
The other driver required emergency medical attention at the scene before being transported to the same hospital. Authorities described this driver’s injuries as life-threatening. There was no immediate report from the hospital as to either motorist’s medical condition.
Investigators with the Connecticut State Police continued to look into the details of the wrong-way wreck.
