Study Finds 222 NY Metro Workplace Deaths Happened in 2016
Further reporting on the important study done on workplace safety in New York has found that there were 222 deaths in the Greater New York Metro area related to workplace accidents. This information is from 2016.
This is the same number of fatalities related to workplace accidents in the prior year. This information comes from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. The data looked at the New York/Newark/New Jersey/and Pennsylvania metropolitan area. The number of workplace deaths has ranged from 145 in the year 2010 to 236 in the year 2004.
The biggest number of workplace deaths happened because of vehicle accidents. But, there were 10 workplace deaths that happened because of homicide.
The second most frequent cause of workplace fatalities in the New York area was slips and falls. This category resulted in 57 deaths in 2016.
Men made up 92 percent of workplace fatalities in the New York area which is consistent with the 93 percent national rate of workplace fatalities.
