Truck Accident Lawyer Discusses Overturned Dump Truck in Fatal Accident
A New Jersey accident involving a dump truck and a van resulted in a loss of life. The Burlington County crash occurred at approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, along State Route 70 near County Route 530.
Vehicles Severely Damaged
NBC10 News reports that a yellow dump truck reportedly overturned, spilling its load out on the highway. As the truck overturned, it crushed a white van. Views from a news helicopter showed that the front of the truck’s cab had separated from the vehicle. The roof of the van was torn off as well. A female occupant of the van did not survive, according to county dispatchers.
Multiple Road Closures
After the fatal event, traffic backed up for more than a mile. A spokesperson for the Pemberton Township Volunteer Fire Department says that authorities shut down Route 70 in both directions, and that Lakehurst Road was closed at Whites Bogs Road.
Investigators remained on the scene for at least four hours.
Although facts vary from case to case, certain truck accidents raise complex liability questions. Investigators often look into the roles played by a driver, trucking company, leasing company and certain vehicle maintenance providers. When a dump truck overturns, an investigator may also explore whether a shifting load was a factor.
When personal injury or loss of life results from negligent conduct, victims and/or their families often seek compensation for a variety of losses, including medical bills, pain and suffering and lost wages.
